Skrefsrud Lutheran Church is located in rural South Dakota, 1.5 miles West and 5 miles North of Beresford. Our church is a member of the Association of Free Lutheran Congregations (AFLC). The AFLC seeks to promote free and living congregations. That means, congregations full of people who have been set free by the blood of Jesus and made alive by the Holy Spirit. We have been set free in order to serve one another: "For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another" (Gal. 5:13). We have also been set free to shine the light of Christ and make disciples of all nations. This is the heart behind our mission statement. By God's grace, we seek to be "A beacon on a hill, standing firm on the Word of God, so that all may know Jesus."
At Skrefsrud Lutheran Church you will find people of a variety of ages who will warmly welcome you. We invite you to join us downstairs after the worship service to visit around coffee and snacks. Two events our church is locally known for are the Wild Game Feed on the first Sunday in February and the Fall Bazaar on the last Monday in October. We invite you to come to these events as well.
More than anything, we seek to be a congregation gathered around the Word of God. We are all sinners in desperate and continual need of God's grace. He delivers His grace to us through His Word and Sacraments and we receive this grace by faith. Before ascending into heaven, the risen Lord Christ said to his disciples: "Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem" (Luke 24:46-47). This is a summary of what you will hear preached each Sunday at Skrefsrud. You will be called to repent of your sins and you will hear how Christ suffered and rose again for the forgiveness of all your sins.
As we gather around the Word of God we pray that our Heavenly Father would give us His Holy Spirit so that by His grace we believe His Holy Word and live godly lives here on earth and in heaven forever.
